How Sunglo Patio Heaters Work

Sunglo heaters burn natural gas or propane at the top of the heater, and a large 34½-inch aluminum reflector directs the heat down and outward over the seating area below. This creates a wide circle of warmth around each heater, making Sunglo a great fit for open patios, outdoor dining and poolside areas where you want even, all-around coverage.

Sizing Guide: Which Sunglo Heater Do You Need?

  • Sunglo A270 (40,000 BTU, propane) – portable heater that runs on a standard 20 lb propane tank. Ideal for flexible seating areas and spaces without a gas line.
  • Sunglo A242 (50,000 BTU) – portable natural gas or propane heater for patios and restaurant seating that need maximum output.
  • Sunglo PSA265 (50,000 BTU) – permanent post-mount heater anchored in place for a clean, secure, long-term installation.
  • Sunglo A244 (50,000 BTU) – hanging ceiling-mount heater that keeps floor space completely clear.

Each Sunglo heater warms approximately a 12 ft diameter area. Actual coverage depends on wind, outdoor temperature and how open the space is. For larger patios, heaters are typically spaced about 12 feet apart. Our team can help you plan the right layout before you order.

Mounting Options

  • Portable (A242 & A270) – freestanding heaters you can move as your layout changes. Add a wheel kit for easier moving or floor clamps to secure them in place.
  • Permanent post mount (PSA265) – the heater post is installed in the ground for a fixed, tamper-resistant setup, ideal for commercial patios.
  • Hanging (A244) – suspended from the ceiling of a covered patio or pavilion to save floor space.

A Note for Contractors & Spec'ers

Sunglo natural gas models require a gas supply line, while the A270 runs on a standard 20 lb propane cylinder for about 10 hours of continuous use. Manually controlled models operate without electrical power, and select models are available with electronic ignition. All installations should follow the clearances and requirements in the Sunglo installation manual and local gas codes, and permanent gas connections should be completed by a licensed installer. Spec sheets are available on each product page, and we offer trade and volume pricing for commercial projects.
